Therapy in Farsi
مشاوره و رواندرمانی به زبان فارسی
Counselling in Farsi for individuals and couples with a Registered Clinical Counsellor. Speak in the language you think in, or move between Farsi and English as you go.
Emotion, memory, and metaphor tend to live in the language you grew up with. When you have to translate as you speak, a layer sits between what you feel and what you can say, and it is usually the most important parts that get flattened: the exact word your mother used, the proverb that explains a whole family dynamic, the thing that is funny in Farsi and only sad in English.
Working in Farsi removes that layer. It also removes a second job many people do without noticing: explaining the culture before they can get to the problem. Expectations around family, privacy, shame, duty, and what can be said outside the home all shape what therapy needs to look like. Here that context is the starting point, not something you have to teach.
Anxiety, stress, burnout, trauma, self-esteem, grief, and life transitions, including the particular weight of building a life in a second country.
Communication, trust, intimacy, and repair after a rupture. Sessions can run bilingually when one partner is more comfortable in Farsi and the other in English.
Processing what has not settled, without having to narrate it in detail. EMDR works in whichever language the memory lives in.
Desire, intimacy, and sexual connection, discussed in a language and a frame that does not require you to translate the culture as well as the words.
Most Farsi-speaking clients work by secure video, from the North Shore and the Tri-Cities to the Fraser Valley, the Okanagan, and Vancouver Island. Online sessions are available anywhere in British Columbia, and they are the same length and the same fee as meeting in person.
If you would rather be in the room, the office is at 20727 Willoughby Town Centre Dr, Building C 200, Langley. Hours are every day, 8am to 8pm, so evenings and weekends are available.
Sessions in Farsi are with Mahsa Hamedanizadeh, MCP, RCC, founder of Roma Villa and a Registered Clinical Counsellor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (RCC #21647). She works in English and Farsi with individuals and couples, and her approach is trauma-informed, drawing on EMDR, the Gottman Method, Satir Transformational Therapy, Internal Family Systems, CBT, and DBT.
Start with a free 20 minute consultation, in Farsi or English. Individual sessions start at $170 and couples sessions at $210 for 50 minutes, in Canadian dollars. Counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor is exempt from GST, so the price shown is the price you pay. There is no wait list, so the times you see are the times available. Direct billing is available for many extended health plans.
Yes. Sessions can be held entirely in Farsi, entirely in English, or move between the two in the same session if that is more natural for you. You choose, and you can change your mind week to week.
Emotion, memory, and metaphor tend to live in the language you grew up with. Translating as you go adds a layer between what you feel and what you can say, and it often flattens the parts that matter most. Working in Farsi removes that layer.
Yes. Couples sessions can run bilingually where one partner is more comfortable in Farsi and the other in English, so neither of you is working in your second language for the whole hour.
Language and culture are not the same thing, and speaking Farsi is only part of it. Expectations around family, privacy, shame, and what is acceptable to discuss outside the home all shape what therapy needs to look like. You should not have to explain that before the work can start.
Yes. The free 20 minute consultation is a conversation with the counsellor, so it can be held in Farsi or English, whichever you prefer.
