Does any of this sound familiar?
- A comment, a tone or a look that sets off a reaction much bigger than the moment.
- Snapping at the people you love most, then feeling ashamed afterwards.
- Going from calm to overwhelmed in seconds, without knowing why.
- Walking on eggshells around yourself, trying not to be set off.
The reaction is older than the moment.
When a small thing sets off a big feeling, it is often touching something older, an earlier hurt that never fully settled. That doesn't make you too much. You shouldn't have to keep apologising for reactions you don't understand, and you don't have to sort them out on your own.

What can change
You will still have strong feelings. The difference is that you get a moment to choose what to do with them.
- Understand what your triggers are and where they come from.
- Notice the first signs of a reaction building, before it takes over.
- Learn ways to calm your body and mind in the moment.
- Repair more easily with the people you love when things do go wrong.

Have questions about counselling for emotional triggers?
Is it normal to react this strongly?
Strong reactions to small things are very common, and they usually make sense once you understand what they are connected to. Counselling helps you find that connection, so the reaction loses some of its grip.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No. Counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia does not require a physician referral. You can book directly.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes. Sessions are available in person in Langley and online anywhere in British Columbia, in English or Farsi.
Fees
The 20 minute consultation is free. Sessions start at $170. There is no wait list, and direct billing is available for many extended health plans. Counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor is exempt from GST, so the price shown is the price you pay.

Left alone, triggers tend to land hardest on the people closest to you, and each reaction leaves a little more distance. It doesn't have to keep going that way.
