A calm, welcoming therapy space

Does any of this sound familiar?

  • Saying yes before you have even thought about it, then quietly resenting it.
  • Feeling responsible for everyone's mood, and rushing to fix it when someone seems upset.
  • Apologising often, even when you haven't done anything wrong.
  • Not really knowing what you want, because you are so tuned in to what others want.

It made sense once.

People-pleasing usually starts as a smart way to stay safe and connected. Somewhere along the way, being easy and helpful kept things calm. You shouldn't have to give yourself up to keep the people you care about, and you don't have to work out a new way on your own.

What can change

You can stay kind and still have limits. The difference is that your needs count too.

  • Understand where the pull to please comes from and what it has been protecting.
  • Practise saying no, and notice that the relationship can survive it.
  • Set boundaries that hold, without the guilt that usually follows.
  • Get to know what you actually want, and make room for it.

This is how you get started:

Have questions about counselling for people-pleasing?

Is people-pleasing really something to bring to counselling?

Yes. If saying no feels impossible, or caring for everyone else leaves you worn out, that is reason enough to reach out. You don't need a diagnosis to start.

Do I need a referral from my doctor?

No. Counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor in British Columbia does not require a physician referral. You can book directly.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes. Sessions are available in person in Langley and online anywhere in British Columbia, in English or Farsi.

Fees

The 20 minute consultation is free. Sessions start at $170. There is no wait list, and direct billing is available for many extended health plans. Counselling with a Registered Clinical Counsellor is exempt from GST, so the price shown is the price you pay.

Left alone, people-pleasing tends to cost a little more each year, a little more energy, a little more resentment, a little less of you. It doesn't have to keep going that way.

Your needs count too.
